Gutter Extensions can help divert water away from your home. One of the most damaging things that can happen to any foundation system is water infiltration. Diverting water away from your home is of paramount importance in keeping your crawl space / foundation dry. This is especially important due to the high-water table in Virginia Beach and the Hampton Roads area. It is extremely important to keep water from building up against or in your crawl space or under your slab.
When water accumulates against your foundation or under your slab many different problems can be created. Trapped water can be a powerful force if it doesn’t have a way to drain and due to a high clay content in the Tidewater area, trapped water cannot easily or quickly filter down into the natural aquifer especially during heavy rains. Without a way to drain standing water it can eventually find its way through foundation walls, or it can collect in your crawl space. Thankfully, water can be diverted through the use of gutter extensions or French drains or a combination of the two.
A gutter extension is a simple and inexpensive solution to water issues and will help protect your home in the worst of the weather that we experience in our area. In fact, a simple gutter extension pipe can solve a multitude of problems and if necessary, it can work together with a French drain system (new or existing) to move water away from your home protecting your crawl space and foundation. They can even be installed underground leading away from your home making them aesthetically pleasing.
As experts in our field, we will design and install the best system to properly drain through the natural slope of your yard both near your foundation and leading away from it. Since gutters can expel a lot of water during heaving rains, we can also install a downspout to the French drain from existing gutters or newly installed gutter extensions can also be tied into the drain system.
If you do need more than gutter extensions, we will take the time to review the system with the homeowner and provide a complete gutter extension and french drain diagram upon completion which will clearly show where in your yard the extension and french drain pipe installation occurred. Once the main extension system is installed, the surrounding areas can be tied into this system if necessary and if required we will construct a French drain basin.
What ever the design we will follow specific procedures to keep the installation process as clean as possible. Drainage components will be wrapped to help protect them from sediment or clogging or anything that could compromise the efficiency of the system. Gravel will be spread evenly along the water capture route/sections in order to assist in providing quicker drainage.

Gutters are used to divert rainwater, but sometimes the end of the gutter is positioned to allow the water to drain right next to the house, near the foundation of your home, when in fact that water should be diverted away from the foundation.
The number of gutter downspouts you will need for your property depends on the grading, drainage, and slope of the terrain.
"Had some structure issues in my crawl space so originally I called a local termite company, they came out and said I had a eight rotted beams and a bunch of broken floor joists. They gave me a $20,000 estimate so I called Gilbert and Son for a second opinion. The owner Mike came out and looked in the crawl space and informed me that I had one rotted beam and two broken floor joists and then explained why that was causing my floor to sink. They were able to fix everything and install a new vapor barrier for under five grand. I’m so happy I called them and escaped being ripped off by the termite company. The technician Paul and his helper were very clean and professional and did a wonderful job. Highly recommend this company. Keep up the great work guys!"
I called because I had the smell of mold in my house and standing water in my crawl space. Gilbert and Son came out and did a free estimste. After I booked the job, they were on time professional, and cleaned up after themselves. The work and price was spot on. I highly recommend this company to anyone in need of mold or crawl space work.
My crawl space had a great deal of mold, so Gilbert & Son installed a great deal of sand to fill in low spots and put down a vapor barrier. They were terrific, and an added benefit was that a cough I had had for months cleared up shortly after that. (Apparently, I have a mold allergy.) All the work was done professionally, as promised.
